POWERS AND Characteristics of Doctor Doom
Doctor Doom is both the kind of man that many would like to be, (a man with great power and leadership), and also the kind of man many would be terrified to become (a man lacking almost anything of true worth). He is a very deep superhero, with both good and bad qualities, though with the bad far outweighing the good. Doctor Doom is a man of ambition, perfectionism, and pride, though, interestingly enough, without any superpowers of his own. All of his powers stem from his own ingenious creations or from his use of sorcery.
Doctor Victor von Doom was born to a mother who practiced witchcraft. She died at the hands of Mephisto, a demon she was calling upon for power. While still young, however, Victor found her books on sorcery. This, plus his bitter hatred of the king for causing the death of his father, is what began his downward spiral into darkness.
One of Doctor Doom's better qualities is his intelligence. He was an incredible inventor, something that is definitely revered in our American culture. Though he used many of his inventions to make Latveria a thriving nation, the invention he wanted to work most, one that would bring his mother back to life, failed him. As brilliant as Doctor Doom was, this is also a reason to fear him, something that makes him even more unlikeable in our culture. Oftentimes, someone of a great intelligence becomes hard to relate to. In his case, Doctor Doom's intelligence is something to fear, as it led him to create all manner of horrible inventions to gain him power over lesser people. As a monarch of the fictional country Latveria, Doctor Doom had plenty of opportunities to exhibit cruel tyranny over others.
