Doctor Doom's effect on society
Doctor Doom is most famously known as one of the main forces of evil opposing the Fantastic Four. He has a history that coincides with Reed Richards, who later became Mr. Fantastic. However, over a period of time, Doctor Doom went on to become one of the more famous super villains, and went on to fight many of the major Marvel heroes. In fact, IGN has rated Doctor Doom as the top third super villain of all time. Even Darth Vader, an extremely iconic villain, was inspired by Doctor Victor Von Doom
Doctor Doom is the monarch of the fictional country of Latveria. When comic writer and artist Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created Doctor Doom's persona, America was in the middle of the cold war. It only makes sense that a villainous leader of another country would make a good villain in an American comic at this time. Doctor Doom represented a lot of things that Americans feared. Another one of his detestable attributes was his use of sorcery and dark magic, the thought of which still makes many Americans squirm today.
Doctor Doom is an interesting American villain because America is all about overcoming humble beginnings and making it big in the world. That's exactly what Doctor Victor Von Doom did. He didn't start out strong or mighty, but as a child with very little and who eventually lost his whole family. It's very interesting that such a strong American ideal is placed upon such a despicable villain.
Most of all, Doctor Doom is a great villain because we can see some of ourselves in him. He is prideful, ambitious, has a large drive to overcome hardships, and is even scared of his own flaws. Many of us can relate to some of those characteristics.
